Lits’omong Youth Development Programme

Lits’omong continues to nurture emerging creative!

COMMEMORATING YOUTH MONTH: SOWETO THEATRE LITS’OMONG PERFORMANCE ARTS PROGRAMME CELEBRATES HISTORY THROUGH DANCE AND MUSIC.

This June, history takes centre stage as a powerful educational tool for the next generation.

On 27 and 28 June 2026, the Soweto Theatre Lits’omong Youth Development Programme, in partnership with De’La Dance Projects, will stage their mid-year concert, Our History, Our Story.

Commemorating Youth Month through storytelling, music, and dance, this exciting production brings South Africa’s history to life. The collaboration uses the performing arts as an educational medium, allowing young learners to discover the powerful struggle stories that built our nation.

Through physical theatre, the youth will learn about major historical milestones. The production extends through generations, taking audiences from the 1956 Women’s March and the 1976 Soweto Uprising right through to the modern Fees Must Fall movement.

In remembering the sacrifices of the past, this mid-year showcase goes beyond entertainment. The result is a thought-provoking exploration of legacy, identity, and the unfinished work of transformation. It uses arts education to spark an honest conversation between elders and youth, inspiring today’s learners to shape the future of our nation with purpose and courage.

As one of Soweto Theatre’s flagship development programmes, Lits’omong continues to nurture emerging creative talent while creating platforms for meaningful storytelling that reflects the experiences and aspirations of South African communities.
