UJ Choir presents Voices of Tomorrow
UJ Choir presents Voices of Tomorrow: A Choir Kaleidoscope.
The University of Johannesburg Choir, a part of the division of UJ Arts & Culture in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (FADA), is proud to present Voices of Tomorrow on Saturday, 1 August 2026 at 15:00 at the UJ Arts Centre’s Keorapetse William Kgositsile Theatre in Auckland Park based on the University’s Kingsway Campus.
This collaborative choral concert brings together young choristers from local schools for an afternoon of beautiful music. The concert aims to inspire the next generation of singers and build a strong choral community in Johannesburg.
Following the spirit of sustainability, this year’s concert turns its focus to the voices that will shape the future. Voices of Tomorrow creates an opportunity for school choirs to perform in the theatre, and experience a university arts environment that values creativity, discipline, and possibility.
The concert will feature performances by:
• Curro Aurora
• Sacred Heart College Choir
• De La Salle Holy Cross College Senior Choir
• Roosevelt High School Choir
• Greenside High School Choir
Audiences can look forward to an uplifting programme that showcases the range, spirit and promise of young choristers from across Johannesburg. Each choir brings its own voice, identity and school community to the stage, creating a rich choral experience that reflects the diversity and energy of the city’s next generation of performers.
“Voices of Tomorrow: Choir Kaleidoscope is about creating space for young singers to feel seen, heard and encouraged,” says Sizwe Mondlane, UJ Choir Master. “Our hope is that some of these young voices will one day become the voices that shape UJ Choir. We want them to see UJ as a place where their talent and creative potential can grow.”
Through this concert, UJ Choir continues to affirm the role of music in holistic education, youth development and community building. The initiative also supports the University of Johannesburg’s Strategic Plan 2035, particularly its commitment to positive societal impact, inclusivity, collaboration and the development of future-focused learning environments.
By bringing young people into a professional performance space, Voices of Tomorrow: Choir Kaleidoscope aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, which promotes inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all. The concert recognises the arts as a powerful extension of education, offering young people opportunities to build confidence, discipline, creativity and a sense of belonging.
The afternoon will celebrate the power of choral music to connect schools, communities and the university, while encouraging young singers to imagine future pathways in the arts and higher education.
