Soweto Theatre Orchestra celebrates Jazz Women

Chapters Of Her

Soweto Theatre Youth Orchestra celebrates iconic African Women in upcoming youth development concert “Chapters Of Her”.

The Soweto Theatre Youth Orchestra is proud to announce its annual concert, “Chapters of Her”, taking place this August 2026. Staged in celebration of Women’s Month, the production serves as a powerful testament to the theatre’s ongoing mission of youth development, using music, poetry, and storytelling to uplift the next generation of South African performers.

The program is more than just a musical showcase, the Soweto Theatre Youth Orchestra functions as an essential youth development initiative. It provides young, aspiring musicians from Soweto and surrounding areas with rigorous orchestral training, mentorship, and a professional platform to hone their craft, by nurturing young talent. The initiative fosters social cohesion, builds discipline, and creates viable pathways into the creative economy for local youth.

This year’s production, “Chapters of Her”, takes audiences on a moving musical journey through the lives and legacies of legendary African women who shaped the continent’s musical identity. The range features a brand-new orchestral arrangement honouring pioneers such as Miriam Makeba, Sophie Mgcina, Sylvia Mdunyelwa, and Dorothy Masuka. Through a seamless blend of orchestral music, spoken word, and creative interpretation, these young musicians will explore the stories, struggles, and triumphs of the matriarchs of African music.

The concert stands as a unique bridge between generations, allowing youth development beneficiaries to honour the icons who paved the way while establishing their own artistic legacy.

“Chapters of Her” is a celebration of womanhood, heritage, resilience, and artistic excellence.

Members of the public, media houses, and arts enthusiasts are invited to witness the incredible growth, skill, and passion of Soweto’s finest young musical minds.
