Multi-talented Gareth Lubner for JMS
Johannesburg music-lovers are in for a fascinating musical treat in the Linder in September.
The Johannesburg Musical Society presents a truly fascinating artistic duo this weekend in the Linder Auditorium. Sunday 13 September sees a unique husband and wife duo perform for the JMS when the Lubbe – Heinmaa Duo takes to the stage at 15:00.
The programme opens and closes with music by two extraordinary composers, both women, both of whom escaped from controlling and manipulative fathers to forge their own way in the world. Clara Schumann’s Three Romances for Violin and Piano Opus 22 will open the programme, and Rebecca Clarke’s Viola Sonata – a cornerstone of the viola repertoire – will close the recital.
Gareth Lubbe will also demonstrate a unique gift for which he has become internationally known – the gift of overtone or multiphonic vocalisation. This very unusual ability sees him lecturing and demonstrating across America and Europe.
The Lubbe- Heinmaa Duo will also play two unusual works. Paul Hindemith’s early Fantasy Sonata for Viola and Benjamin Britten’s Lachrymae – a tribute to the Elizabethen lutenist John Dowland – as part of this unique programme.
Tickets can be booked at Quicket or bought at the box office on Sunday from 14:00. Credit cards are accepted.
