Tale Tellers Chapter 2

Tale Tellers Chapter 2

FAIRY TALES FIND A SOUTH AFRICAN HOME IN TALE TELLERS CHAPTER 2

Rapunzel wears dreadlocks, Snow White discovers township life, and young performers bring familiar stories to life with a local twist.

This December, step into a world where fairy tales feel wonderfully close to home. Kids On Stage Productions brings Tale Tellers Chapter 2 to the South African State Theatre from 8 to 13 December as part of the Mzansi Festival, inviting families to share in a celebration of imagination, identity and storytelling.

Blending drama, contemporary dance and ballet, the production reimagines beloved fairy tales through a proudly South African lens. Familiar characters enter worlds shaped by local cultures and communities, offering young audiences the delight of recognising something of themselves in the stories unfolding on stage.

Here, Rapunzel’s beautiful dreadlocks become part of the magic, while Snow White’s journey takes her into a vibrant South African township. These playful re-imaginings open up conversations about courage, friendship and belonging, reminding audiences that our own experiences deserve a place in the stories we tell.

At the heart of the production is a cast of young performers whose expressive movement and dramatic storytelling bring these magical worlds to life. Colourful costumes and a fusion of performance styles create a festive theatre outing for children, parents and grandparents alike.

“This production reminds us that every story can be told in a way that reflects who we are,” says Zander Naude, Director of Kids On Stage. “We invite you to laugh, dream, and be inspired as we continue the TaleTellers journey together.”

For families looking to spend meaningful time together this festive season, Tale Tellers Chapter 2 offers an invitation to rediscover familiar stories with fresh eyes, celebrate young talent and let imagination lead the way.

Come for the fairy tales. Leave with a little more magic, and a story to share.
