BASA and Canva partner
Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) and Canva are partnering to strengthen digital capability across South Africa’s creative economy.
The partnership gives creative practitioners and organisations practical design resources, training and a stronger path to sustainable business growth.
The partnership sits within BASA’s Value Makers campaign, which recognises the contribution creative practitioners make to South Africa’s economy and works to strengthen the tools and platforms available to the sector.
The partnership focuses on 3 areas:
Creative Sector Template Library: practical, professional templates for everyday business needs, including presentations, proposals, sponsorship applications, social media, portfolios, media kits and marketing materials.
BASA Membership Masterclasses: Canva will help BASA build professional, consistent learning resources that creatives can adapt for their own businesses. A dedicated Canva Masterclass will show practical ways to use design tools to build stronger brands, communicate ideas and engage audiences.
Canva Skills Transfer and Certification: skills development and certification to help creative practitioners build digital skills and apply them to business growth.
“Creative practitioners need more than visibility; they need practical tools and skills that help turn creative ideas into sustainable businesses. By combining BASA’s sector knowledge and convening power with Canva’s design expertise, this partnership will make professional resources and learning opportunities more accessible, relevant and useful to South Africa’s creative community. This announcement is the first step in a programme that will continue to grow and deliver value over time,” says Thabo Mphelo, Partnership and Stakeholder Manager at BASA.
The Creative Sector Template Library will provide practical, professional templates tailored to the needs of creative businesses and practitioners. Resources will support everyday business and communications needs, including presentations, proposals, sponsorship applications, social media, portfolios, media kits and marketing materials.
Through the partnership, Canva will also strengthen BASA’s masterclass offering by supporting the development of professional, consistent learning resources that creatives can adapt for their own businesses. A dedicated Canva Masterclass will introduce practical ways to use design and digital tools to build stronger brands, communicate ideas and engage audiences, while skills development and certification opportunities will help creative practitioners build their digital capabilities and apply them to their professional and business growth.
“This partnership gives us a chance to support South Africa’s creative economy, helping practitioners and organisations build the digital skills they need to compete in an increasingly digital market,” says Bianca Sibiya, Country Manager, Canva South Africa.
BASA and Canva see digital skills as a key driver of growth for South Africa’s creative economy, giving practitioners and organisations the tools, skills and platforms to communicate effectively, operate sustainably and grow.
