Two great piano quintets for Joburg
The Johannesburg Musical Society offers a chance to hear two great piano quintets performed in the Linder Auditorium on Sunday 11 October at 15:00.
True to its mandate of presenting unique and high-quality performances, the JMS offers music lovers a chance to hear two seldom-performed masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire performed right here in the city.
Sunday 11 October sees top Canadian pianist Jean-Phillipe Sylvestre joining with our own highly-regarded Odeion String Quartet to play Cesar Franck’s passionate Piano Quintet in F Minor and Antonin Dvorak’s lovely Piano Quintet in A Major.
Jean-Philippe Sylvestre -three-time winner of the Canadian Music Competition – has a busy European career and has been described as ‘a poet of the piano’ by international conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin. The Odeion String Quartet has garnered significant recognition, many important awards and is a regular feature at all major South African arts festivals.
The Dvorak Quintet was last aired on the JMS platform in 2005, while the Franck has not been performed here in Johannesburg for many decades.
Tickets can be booked through Quicket. The Linder box office opens for sales at 14:00 on the day. Credit cards are accepted.
