On 24 October 2026, Soweto Theatre will come alive with music, movement and hope with the Nomsa Manaka Foundation event, Dancing Out Of Cancer!

The Nomsa Manaka Foundation, in partnership with Soweto Theatre, is hosting its annual Three-Hour Dancing Out of Cancer Dance Marathon to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The incidence of breast cancer among South African women is increasing and it is one of the most common cancers among women in the country. Over the past 20 years, breast cancer cases have risen significantly, now making up 14-30% of all cancers in women and South Africa has a higher death rate. It is the most prevalent cancer amongst white and Asian women and the second most common cancer among black and coloured women globally in the same period.

We have an exciting line-up of four dance instructors who will each lead participants through 45-minute segments of amapiano, sepantsula, traditional dance and aerobics.

The marathon will be followed by a special live performance by Priya Ndlovu, a 30-year-old stage three breast cancer patient who will be sharing her story and treatment journey. Priya is also a beneficiary of the funds raised at the marathon to assist her to pay for treatment and medical procedures.

“I survived cancer twice and know first-hand what it’s like to go through brutal chemotherapy and the financial cost associated with getting treatment. The foundation wants to help Priya in raising much needed funds that can help her get lifesaving treatment before it’s too late. No one should suffer alone, we must support one another.” said Nomsa Manaka, Founder of the Nomsa Manaka Foundation.

This isn’t merely a dance marathon but a space for cancer survivors, caregivers, families and the community at large to stand together. We dance for those still fighting. We dance for those we have lost. We dance because everybody carries a story, and every step can carry hope.

No dance experience is needed. Come as you are and move at your own pace.
