The South African State Theatre (SAST) presents As die Tuig Skawe, a gripping Afrikaans drama running from 23 to 27 September 2026 at the Arena. Reimagined through a modern gothic lens, the production explores the fragile boundaries between love, longing, control and destruction.

Set in a remote, sun-scorched corner of post-war South Africa, the story follows Krissie O’Brien, a woman trapped in a marriage shaped more by survival than love. Her husband, Gert, desperately holds onto dreams of redemption and stability, while Krissie becomes increasingly burdened by disappointment and sacrifice.

When wealthy bachelor Fred Moller re-enters her life, old desires and dangerous possibilities resurface. Charming yet deeply possessive, Fred offers Krissie the possibility of escape, slowly finding his way into the cracks of her failing marriage. Over one devastating weekend, desire turns into obsession, hope becomes entangled with destruction, and tragedy draws dangerously close.

Directed by Lara Lourens, the production features Kaz McFadden as Fred, Sallas De Jager as Gert, Lizelle Pike as Krissie, Christo Beer as Teuns and Kristin Naudé as Marie.

With its intimate relationships, psychological tension and gothic atmosphere, As die Tuig Skawe promises audiences a compelling theatrical experience about what happens when the desire for another life becomes impossible to contain.
