Imagine a school reunion where everyone gets a turn at the microphone and turns into a clown! It’s the same school hall, but it’s 44 years later for the 1980 matric group. Yes, it’s time for their 40-year reunion, but due to the Covid pandemic they can only hold it 4 years later. The reunion is experienced through the eyes of Petrus Boshoff, who acts as narrator. Throughout the evening, various classmates get a turn behind the microphone to have their say. Some humorously, others more serious and reflective. 44 years ago, everyone experienced a tragedy together that they are now confronting together for the first time. It is refreshing but also sad to finally get your turn to speak after 44 years – and at a school reunion. With a cooler box, the help of a school blazer, a few catchphrases and a different tone of voice, Frank gives shape to 15 different characters on stage. Some speakers are comical, others serious, and the evening does not pass without revelations, and they are confronted with the ghosts of the past. There will certainly be some laughter but there are moments when they are dead silent. And such silence often has great impact and speaks volumes. Hopefully, everything Frank says on stage will be truly absorbed and later re-evaluated.

Dana Snyman and Frank Opperman have joined forces several times in creating one-man plays: Dana with the pen and Frank on stage, including Die uwe, Pottie Potgieter, Rooikaart, Hond, Klaagliedere van dominee Tienie Benade and Donkie. With Reünie, the strong directorial hand of De Klerk Oelofse has been added. Expect the same fine satire, compassion, and a touch of nostalgia.
