STAND Foundation fundraiser alert
Support the Sustaining Theatre and Dance Foundation, and experience David Krakauer & Kathleen Tagg’s Breath & Hammer Acoustic at the Baxter Theatre.
The Baxter Concert Hall will host an extraordinary one-night-only performance by Grammy-nominated clarinet virtuoso David Krakauer and acclaimed South African–raised pianist, composer and producer Kathleen Tagg on 11 January 2026, dedicated to raising funds for the Sustaining Theatre and Dance Foundation.
This collaboration marks the beginning of what is hoped will become an annual fundraising concert series, bringing internationally recognised artists into meaningful engagement with local audiences and cultural development initiatives.
Widely recognised as one of the greatest clarinettists in the world, David Krakauer is celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to modern klezmer and contemporary classical music. His work has reshaped the role of the clarinet on the global stage. Kathleen Tagg is an award-winning pianist, composer and producer whose career spans four continents and a diverse body of work blending acoustic piano, electronics, loops, samples and extended techniques.
Since beginning their collaboration in 2012, Krakauer and Tagg have developed a remarkable body of work that defies stylistic boundaries. Their performances have appeared at leading international venues including Carnegie Hall (New York), Pierre Boulez Saal (Berlin), Cité de la Musique (Paris) and the National Gallery (Washington DC). Their collaborative projects include symphonic works, immersive multimedia performances, film scores for festivals such as the Berlin Biennale and OutFest, and cross-cultural music initiatives featured on NPR Morning Edition.
About the Performance: Breath & Hammer Acoustic
Breath & Hammer Acoustic is an intimate and deeply personal programme that places the duo’s virtuosic and unconventional playing styles in close proximity to the audience. Situated at the intersection of world music and improvisation, the performance draws on influences ranging from klezmer and jazz to minimalism and Romantic symphonic traditions.
The programme features original compositions, reimagined traditional works, and highly inventive arrangements that reflect the artists’ shared mission: to foster human connection through music that transcends cultural and stylistic boundaries.
