Jazz Afternoons at The Daisy Jones Bar continue on Sunday, 5 May 2024 with the impressive Alvin Dyers Quartet & special guests LIVE in Concert.

The Quartet features the Jazz maestro, Alvin Dyers on guitar with his longstanding trio members, Roy Davids on drums & Tino Europa on bass, as well as Zeke Le Grange on saxophone; all highly respected artists in their own right. Special guest artists on the bill include the sensational legendary Danny Butler on vocals & the soulful Mark Johnstone on vocals & guitar.

The Quartet & guest artists will serve up a blended Jazz repertoire of Dyers’ originals, swing, bebop & South African & Latin Jazz favourites.

MORE ABOUT ALVIN DYERS:

Dyers is, undoubtedly, one of South Africa’s most prolific jazz guitarists, band leaders & educators.

A celebrated guitar virtuoso, renowned for his distinctive guitar style & sound, he has captivated audiences at multiple prestigious concerts & events locally and abroad.

As a music educator teaching Jazz guitar privately, in schools & community music projects, at the South African College of Music (SACM) based at the University of Cape Town (UCT) or facilitator of numerous international Jazz exchange programmes, for example, with the Norwegian Jazz Academy, or as the music director of the Cape Jazz Orchestra, a South African (SA) governmental Arts & Culture initiative which, under the leadership of Abdullah Ibrahim, brought 16 young jazz musicians together to perform arrangements of various SA jazz composers, Dyers has no doubt had a major influence on the careers of countless young jazz musicians and the South African Jazz scene as a whole.

The Monday Night Jazz Jam Sessions, hosted by Dyers in Cape Town for some three decades, went on to become somewhat of an institution on the local jazz scene while also gaining worldwide attention; attracting musicians & music lovers from across the globe.
