Songs of Freedom Post Concert Statement

Songs of Freedom

Following the songs of freedom event commemorating 30 years of democracy in South Africa, where overall we have received positive feedback both from those attending and those participating in it, there were some concerns that were raised post the production which we would like to address.

Busa Creative Agency prides itself with working with new artistic voices and artist. We intentionally selected two community choirs to be in this production because it is important that we move those choirs from community stages to professional stages allowing them to share the stage with world class talent. We were grateful that Joburg theatre accepted our invitation to partner with us in the project. For this reason, we were resolute that to commemorate these 30 Years of Freedom, which falls within this year, and with all the challenges we faced we would not disappoint our patrons, partners and artists by merely cancelling or postponing the event. We felt, as we still do not withstand the many challenges we faced, that we could not disappoint some close to seventy artists that were part of this production. As is the experience with many artistic curators and producers unforeseen circumstances necessitate that we adjust the production as opposed to cancelling the entire production due to the absence of one component.

We acknowledge that some patrons might have missed our adjusted press statements, posters and concert description in the public platforms which spoke to there being an absence of the orchestra in this production. However, contingency plans had been made such that strings were present, and pianists were present to accompany all the pieces that would have needed an orchestra ensuring that there would be no decline in the quality of the work presented.

We register no regret in remaining resolute in collaborating with the many artists who enjoyed the privilege of performing on a professional platform like The Joburg Theatre. It is also important to mention that the entirety of this production was conceptualized and produced by Busa Creative Agency and other components of the production such as venue and technical support including certain marketing components were done by Joburg Theatre.

We remain grateful to the corporate sponsors who supported this event who share in our vision of doing artistic development work.
