Joburg Theatre is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated annual Joburg Festival of Lights, set to dazzle at Joburg Zoo this holiday season scheduled to run from December 1, 2023, to January 7, 2024.

As you step into this extraordinary festival, prepare to be spellbound by the larger-than-life illuminated animal characters meticulously designed to transport you to a magical realm. These lifelike creatures will glow and illuminate the night, creating a truly mesmerizing atmosphere that will leave you in awe. But the magic doesn’t stop there! The festival promises an auditory feast with captivating entertainment that will serenade your senses, creating a soundtrack that perfectly complements the enchanting visuals.

Xoliswa Nduneni Ngema, CEO of Joburg City Theatres, expressed her excitement, saying, “The Festival of Lights is one of JCT’s flagship events and has been curated to provide a plethora of unforgettable experiences. While the enchanting display of life-size illuminated animal characters and live entertainment takes centre stage, we have ensured that families of all ages can enjoy a diverse range of activities, such as kiddies rides, mascot entertainment, a Beer and Gin Garden, the Tree of Light picnic, and illuminated life-size animal characters, ensuring there’s something for everyone. I want to express my gratitude to our partners Joburg City Parks and Zoo, and City Power, who have been with us since the very first launch of the festival.”

For the little festival-goers, there’s a lively children’s area filled with endless fun and excitement. They’ll have the time of their lives exploring and playing in this dedicated space, ensuring smiles and laughter all around.

And what is a festival without delicious food options? Patrons will have a delectable selection of culinary delights to choose from, offering flavours that cater to every palate – a gastronomic adventure not to missed.

For the connoisseurs of craft beer and gin, there is something special in store – a dedicated garden where the finest brews and spirits can be savoured. This garden will be a delightful oasis for those looking to indulge in artisanal drinks and socialize with fellow festival enthusiasts. But here is the real kicker: we have an exciting surprise awaiting you! Be prepared to be astonished by brand-new sculptures, adding an extra layer of wonder and amazement to the festival. These art pieces will be sure to take your breath away, and you won’t see them coming.

And last but certainly not least, the theatre mobile stage will be the undeniable centrepiece of the festival where the magic truly comes alive, with breathtaking displays of talent to awe-inspiring acts. It will feature a dynamic and electrifying line-up of performances that will leave patrons absolutely mesmerized.

So get ready to immerse yourself in a world of wonder, magic, and entertainment like never before! This festival is not just an event; it’s an enchanting experience that you won’t want to miss for anything in the world with performances by Bongi Archie, Youth Russian Ballet Company– A mesmerizing Nutcracker, Comedy and DJ Nights – A night of laughter and groovy beats, The Soil, Art of Dance, Soweto Spiritual Singers, Tribhangi Dance Company, iComplete, Tamara Dey with the dynamic Mzansi Gay Choir, DaFunc and many more.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their picnic blankets and camping chairs (please note that alcohol is strictly prohibited), creating an ideal setting for an evening under the stars. A variety of food stalls will be available, including the Stages restaurant, offering a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Ticket prices are as follows: R175 for adults, R100 for pensioners, and R75 for children aged 3 to 12 years, with package discounts available. Children under the age of 3 can enter for free. Tickets can be conveniently purchased from www.joburgtheatre.com.
