Hosted at the esteemed, HUGO LAMBRECHTS MUSIC CENTRE (MAIN AUDITORIUM), the genesis of this distinctive listening-experience will feature solo pianists, MARK FRANSMAN, KYLE SHEPHERD and THE SN PROJECT (SIPHEPHELO NDLOVU). MARK FRANSMAN (also known as MAKESON BROWNE and SONIK CITIZEN), is a highly-acclaimed musician, two-time, SAMA-award winner and multi-instrumentalist. In the words of, revered arts journalist, GWEN ANSELL, his most current offering entitled, solo, represents the collective legacy of South African jazz. Each composition serves as a sonic tribute to the greats; ERROL DYERS, ALLEN KWELA, CHRIS McGREGOR, ROBBIE JANSEN’S, “SONS OF TABLE MOUNTAIN”, MIKE MAKHALEMELE and more.
KYLE SHEPHERD, is one of South Africa’s leading pianists, film and theatre music composers of his generation. He is internationally recognised for his distinctive compositional style and performances. In 2014, he was crowned the, “Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year” for Jazz and the “UNISA International Piano Competition” winner, in 2019. He has performed in 28 countries around the world, including multiple concert tours to Japan and has released seven jazz albums to date. In addition, he has penned an ever-growing number of film, television and theatre scores.
The SN Project (SIPHEPHELO NDLOVU), was a student of the late-great, ANDRÉ PETERSEN. His signature-sound is shaped by lived-experiences in, Johannesburg and KwaZulu-Natal. His debut-album entitled, AFRIKANIZATION incorporates elements of the jazz language, whilst blending seamlessly with rich harmonies derived from isiZulu culture.
