CPO ends year on rousing note
Three Christmas Carols concerts, three with CPO learners and one with pianist Qden Blaauw … the Cape Town Philharmonic ending the year on a high note.
The CPO is also launching a new campaign, Poco a Poco, with a concert of film music.
Only tickets for the dress rehearsal of Beethoven’s Fifth, the annual Huberte Rupert Memorial Concert conducted by Bernhard Gueller are available. The concert at the Endler Hall on November 29 is sold out, and features Beethoven’s Fidelio overture and his 5th Symphony, with Qden Blaauw the soloist in the Emperor Concerto.
On December 7 at Artscape, the 120 musicians in the Masidlale grassroots mother tongue music education programmes will take place at Artscape at noon. This concert, free of charge, is a highly energizing showcase of why music brings such joy. The next day, the 300 musicians in the CP Music Academy will take you to the next educational level, with four ensembles presenting a free concert at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre at 14:30. The ensembles at the junior, intermediate and senior strings and the junior wind band, conducted by Felicia Salies-Petersen, Stacey Jansen, Charlene Bogenhagen and Karen Hess. This concert is also free of charge. They will be followed by the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble and Youth Orchestra conducted by Charlene Verster and Liam Burden. On that programme, which begins at 16:30, you will hear works such as the Ultimate 80s hits and Beethoven. Tickets are here – https://www.webtickets.co.za/V2/Event.aspx?itemid=1551551358
Season’s greetings from the CPO begin on December 10 this year when it presents the lunch-hour concert at Artscape at 13:00. This free concert, in collaboration with Cape Town Opera, Vox Cape Town and St George’s Cathedral Choir, will include the most loved carols such as Once in Royal David’s City, Away in a Manger, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Oh Come all ye Faithful. At the two concerts on December 11 and 12 at St George’s Cathedral at 18:00 you will also be able to hear the power of the organ played by Grant Bräsler. After the launch of Sponsor a Seat last year, Business Development Strategist Louise Enslin brought into fruition a plan to reach donors who can support the CPO at smaller levels, Poco a Poco, Little by Little, allows you to donate as much or as little as you can when you can. It is being launched on November 27 at a cocktail and canape concert and tickets are in short supply. Lynelle Kenned is the host, Brandon Philips the conductor. You can still get a ticket here – https://www.webtickets.co.za/v2/event.aspx?itemid=1555082528
