Giving back to SA through the power of music
The Choral Celebration Network Foundation (CCNF) is paving the way for the post-pandemic re-entry of Choral Music events in South Africa.
CCNF has facilitated eight choral celebration festivals this year alone, with four more to come. But the most exciting project by far is the launch of a brand-new project – UDUMO. The 2022 Gauteng UDUMO – the Grande Premiere – will have 23 choirs conducted by six expert conductors and will take place over two days on 7 and 8 October 2022.
Choirs will be mentored, building up to a 2-day event consisting of fantastic development sessions hosted at the spectacular auditorium of Moreleta NG Church in Pretoria. The gala concert will include individual mass choir performances of a Primary school, two high schools and one adult choir, each consisting of 250 singers. These choirs will be combined into a 1000-strong participant mass choir performing a variety of items on 8 October.
Choristers participating will get exposure to some of the world’s best conductors, and will be sent back to their communities re-energised through fun, sharing and a brilliant performance opportunity.
This uniquely South African event will expand to two more provinces in 2023, and we hope to have an active UDOMO choir in each of our 9 provinces by 2025.
As an organisation, CCNF believes in giving back to the community through music and any other means possible. They will, therefore, also launch a new annual outreach drive at the first UDUMO event.
“As an additional outreach program, we would also like to use this UDUMO project to feed some less fortunate students. Audience members of our gala concert will be asked to each bring a tin of veggies, and these tins will then be distributed at Jacaranda Hostel for post-graduates at the University of Pretoria.” Says founder and director Alta Maré from CCNF.
