CPO’s Spring Season on sale now

Violinists in the season are Jordan Brooks, Tim Kliphuis, Jolente de Maeyer and Avigail Bushakevitz, performing a wide array of styles.

SPRING SYMPHONIES FOR CPO

Tickets are on sale for the four concerts on Thursdays, September 1, 15, 22 and 29. Bernhard Gueller conducts the first and last concerts, and Belgian conductor Rik Ghesquiere comes to Cape Town to conduct the middle two, supported by the Government of Flanders.

Jordan Brooks will perform the Sibelius Violin Concerto on September 1, almost on the eve of his departure for London to take up a scholarship at the Royal College of Music; Belgian violinist Jolente De Maeyer will perform the Violin Concerto of one of Belgium’s most illustrious composers, August De Boeck on September 15; a trio of Tim Kliphuis (violin), Peter Martens (cello) and Charl du Plessis will perform the South African premiere of Kliphuis’s Triple Concerto on September 22, while in the same concert saxophonist Liam Burden will perform Keith Houban’s Legends of a Giant; and Avigail Bushakevitz will perform the Saint-Saens Violin Concerto No. 3.

Main works on the programme are the Symphonie fantastique by Berlioz, Franck’s Symphony in D minor; On the Waterfront Symphonic Suite by Bernstein and Dvorak Symphony No. 8. The Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble will give a curtain raiser on September 15.
