Coffee Snobs releases Branderkind music video

It is easy to understand why the Huisgenoot Tempo nominated duo – Coffee Snobs – is such a hit with local audiences after hearing their brand new single.

BRANDERKIND, which is about their son and the ocean, is a feel-good song that perfectly captures the carefree spirit of and their unconditional love for their child.

“I am crazy about the ocean. It is my favourite part of creation and I feel anchored here. Even when it feels like the world is collapsing (like the last year), I always gain new perspective and hope simply by looking at the sea or putting my toes in the water,” says Vernette Wessels, the lead singer and songwriter of the group. “My son shares this passion, and it is wonderful to see the energy rushing through him when we are on the beach or in the water. I know the ocean will always be part of him and a place where he can be free to live life to the fullest!”

The music video that’s also just been released and produced by Luc Prinsloo, was filmed in Mossel Bay and complements the theme of the song. It tells the story of a surfer who loved the sea from an early age and how this love deepens as he grows older. “Our son, Matthias, and three of our friends FJ Lombaard, Wulf Erhardt and Wade Shaw, can be seen in the video,” she shares. “The message we would like to convey with this is that you should appreciate what is beautiful and good in your own life and that you should do what you love.”

BRANDERKIND is their fourth single and follows in the footsteps of their previous release, Sal Jy, which was very well received, as well as a very successful second album – Lig – which was nominated for a Tempo Award.

Coffee Snobs, which consists of the married couple, Marius and Vernette Wessels, was founded in 2012 and their love for each other and music is visible in evident in every stage performance and song they record.

Marius has always loved performing for his friends and family and even though he has always been a bit shy, there is nowhere else he would rather be than behind his bass guitar on stage. He grew up in Groblersdal and comes from a very musical family. The musician has always been a fan of acoustic music and reveals that he would have liked to be a pilot if he had to choose a different career. This talented musician believes that nothing worthwhile is ever easy and has always worked hard for what he wants to achieve in life.

Vernette grew up in Pretoria and has been singing and playing the piano since she was a little girl. This mother of two has been in the music industry for twenty-one years and it has taught her the importance of maintaining balance in life. She loves the outdoors, enjoys a wide variety of music and shares that artists such as Elvis Blue, Jack Johnson and Laurika Rauch have had the greatest influence on her own style of music.

The versatile couple from Mossel Bay, whose stage name was inspired by their mutual love of good coffee, initially started performing just for fun. Positive feedback from radio stations and listeners motivated them to take the matter more seriously.

They boast an impressive arsenal of original music, based primarily on their own life experiences, and resonate with artists that create meaningful music.

Over the years, they have had the privilege of sharing the stage with several big names in the industry and were also part of a music production, Donkernag Pantoen, written by Riana Scheepers.

They are currently working on two more singles, which they would like to release in 2021, as well as a new production that is intended for the 2022 festival circuit.

Coffee Snobs believes that their latest single, BRANDERKIND, will appeal to a wide audience and hopes that it will have a positive impact on listeners.

Coffee Snobs stel Branderkind musiekvideo vry!

Die musiekvideo is in Mosselbaai verfilm en sluit aan by die tema van die lied.

Wanneer jy die lekkerluisterwysie en hoendervleismooi lirieke van die Huisgenoot Tempo-benoemde duo – Coffee Snobs – se nuwe enkelsnit hoor, verstaan jy onmiddellik hoekom hulle so gewild is onder Suid-Afrikaanse musiekliefhebbers.

BRANDERKIND, wat gaan oor hulle seuntjie en die see, is ’n goedvoel-kontemporêre snit wat dit regkry om die sorgvryheid van kindwees, asook onvoorwaardelike ouerliefde, perfek vas te vang.

“Ek is baie lief vir die see, dit is my gunsteling deel van die skepping en ek voel geanker hier. Al voel dit of die wêreld inmekaar tuimel (soos die laaste jaar) kry ek altyd nuwe perspektief en hoop bloot net deur vir die see te kyk of my tone in die water te sit,” vertel Vernette Wessels, die Eva van die groep en skrywer van die enkelsnit. “My seuntjie deel hierdie liefde en dis so wonderlik om te sien hoe die energie deur hom bruis as ons op die strand of in die water is. Ek weet die see sal altyd deel van hom wees en ’n plek waar hy kan vry wees om voluit te leef!”

Die musiekvideo wat ook pas bekendgestel is en deur Luc Prinsloo vervaardig is, is in Mosselbaai verfilm en sluit aan by die tema van die lied. Dit vertel die storie van ’n branderplankryer wat van kleins af lief was vir die see en hoe hierdie liefde verdiep soos wat hy ouer word. “Ons seuntjie, Matthias, en drie van ons vriende, FJ Lombaard, Wulf Erhardt en Wade Shaw, is in die video te sien,” deel sy. “Die boodskap wat ons graag hiermee wil uitdra is dat ’n mens dit wat mooi en goed is in jou eie lewe moet waardeer en dat jy moet doen waarvoor jy lief is.”

Coffee Snobs, wat bestaan uit die getroude paartjie, Marius en Vernette Wessels, is in 2012 gestig en hulle liefde vir mekaar en musiek is tasbaar in elke verhoogoptrede en musiekopname.

Marius was nog altyd mal oor konsert hou en al was hy nog altyd ’n bietjie skaam, is daar nêrens anders waar hy eerder sou wou wees as met sy baskitaar op die verhoog nie. Hy het in Groblersdal grootgeword en kom uit ’n baie musikale gesin. Akoestiese musiek was nog altyd sy gunsteling en hy verklap dat hy graag ’n vlieënier sou wou wees as hy ’n ander werk moes kies. Dié talentvolle musikant glo dat niks wat die moeite werd is ooit maklik is nie en het nog altyd hard gewerk vir wat hy in die lewe wil bereik.

Vernette het in Pretoria grootgeword en was van kleins af besig om te sing of klavier te speel. Hierdie ma van twee is al vir een-en-twintig-jaar in die musiekbedryf doenig en het vroeg al geleer dat dit nodig is om goeie balans in die lewe te handhaaf. Sy is mal oor die buitelewe, geniet ’n wye verskeidenheid musiek en verklap dat kunstenaars soos Elvis Blue, Jack Johnson en Laurika Rauch die grootste invloed gehad het op haar eie musiekstyl.

Hierdie veelsydige musiekpaar van Mosselbaai, wie se verhoognaam gebore is uit hulle gesamentlike liefde vir goeie koffie, het aanvanklik net vir die pret begin optree. Positiewe terugvoer van radiostasies en luisteraars het hulle egter geïnspireer om die saak met meer erns te benader.

Hulle spog met ’n indrukwekkende arsenaal oorspronklike musiek, wat hoofsaaklik gebaseer is op hulle eie lewenservaringe, en vind aanklank by kunstenaars wat betekenisvolle musiek skep.

Oor die jare, het hulle die voorreg gehad om die verhoog te deel met verskeie groot name in die bedryf en was hulle ook deel van ’n musiekproduksie, Donkernag Pantoen, wat deur Riana Scheepers geskryf is.

Tans werk hulle aan nog twee enkelsnitte wat hulle graag nog in 2021 wil vrystel, asook ’n nuwe produksie wat hulle graag by 2022-feeste wil opvoer.

Coffee Snobs glo dat baie ouers sal aanklank vind by hulle nuutste enkelsnit, BRANDERKIND, en hoop dat dit werklik ’n positiewe impak op luisteraars sal hê.
